I would say no way.

I had a Secret with crypto access and my neighbors told me the questions they asked.

I also vouched for an airman who was my neighbor once for a Secret clearance. They wanted to know if he did drugs or drank. If this is on record, I would say your clearance will not be approved.

I had a Top Secret SCI clearance for almost 15 years.

You'll have no problems as long as there's no hint it was a suicide attempt.

If there is no indication of a "suicide attempt", you have a decent chance at getting one. However, if a polygraph is involved, it might be best to take your chances and come clean. According to my girlfriend, holder of a TS clearance, it is lying about things that disqualifies people more often than the "offense" itself.

If you have any record of problems w/ drugs, you will not get it no way. But if the big army decides to look into it, or your chain of command tries to fight it, maybe. Are you in the army yet? What meps and the army knows about you before you join is ONLY what you tell them, if it isn't on your criminal record, they will not know.

It's definitely not going to help, if it was a suicide attempt it will be revealed and chances are they will find out you are unstable mentally/emotionally or were. Chances are you wont obtain Top Secret, however Secret you probably can still get.

Benzodiazepines are not actually a specific drug but a category of drugs. They are more well known today for anti-anxiety uses, but some are certainly prescribed for sleep alone.

There isn't necessarily a "safer" one as they all have similar mechanisms of use and your doctor will give you a small, effective dose to start, which (if you follow directions) should be fine.

I find it odd that your doctor specified he would be giving you a hypnotic, as that is typically a term used more specifically among neuropharmacologists to describe the specific mechanisms of action of specific drugs--not something most people would need to worry about.

Below I included a site with a list of all the benzodiazepines. Some of the more commonly prescribed medications include (brand names) Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and Alprazolam although this is generally for anxiety. Restoril is frequently used for sleep problems, as are nonbenzodiazepine hypnotics like Ambien and Lunesta.
